Red Wings visit White House

10/14/2008 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - For the second time in his presidential tenure, George W. Bush welcomed the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings to the White House.

"In 2002, the Red Wings were the first NHL team I hosted for a Stanley Cup ceremony," the president said. "Turns out they are the last team I'll be hosting. You guys may be back next year -- but not me."

Bush recognized the young players and the aging veterans of the championship team that beat Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup Finals for Detroit's 11th title, including four in the last 11 seasons.

"Chris Chelios set a record when he played his 248th career playoff game," said Bush. "At 46 years old -- or 46 years young -- Chris is the oldest player to win the Stanley Cup, and the second-oldest player to play in the NHL. That guy is going to play a lot more. I mean, if he can do it age 46, why not 52 like Gordie Howe?"

The president also joked how Kris Draper deflected a puck off his face and into the net in a playoff game against Dallas. Draper lost three teeth because of the goal.

"He is the first player to score a playoff with his teeth," Bush said to laughter. "Those are beauties. But somebody said they wished he'd have kept his Chuck Norris beard."

There was also mention of how forward Darren McCarty overcame a drinking problem to get his life back in order and return to the NHL and celebrate a fourth Stanley Cup championship with Detroit.

"This guy got his life back together, seized the moment, and scored the opening goal in game two of the series against Nashville," said Bush. "That is a stout story."

Bush also joked how some of the players used the Stanley Cup when they got a chance to take it home.

"Several players had young relatives baptized with the Cup," Bush said. "Others let their children use it as a bowl for cereal, for ice cream, and donuts. Tomas Kopecky took it home to Slovakia and used it as a bowl for a special Slovakian broth. No telling what was in that special Slovakian broth.

"Many Red Wings used their time with the Cup to lift the lives of others. Kris Draper took the Cup to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. That must have been a joyous moment for them to see the Cup. Coach (Mike) Babcock took it to visit the disabled residents of a Sherbrooke Community Center. Brian Rafalski took it to a Wisconsin veterans home."

The team honored the president with a pair of Red Wings jerseys, one with the No.43 for the current presidency and the other of No.41 for ex-president George H.W. Bush.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP

With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.

There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.

Eastern Conference Playoff Betting Trends

We all know by now that the “public” loves to put their money on the FAVORITES and the OVERS.  Just by taking a quick glance at Sportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends” it appears as is this tendency will continue as far as the Eastern Conference games are concerned.  For the inaugural games of the first round, 69% of the early money is on Toronto -4.5; 59% of bettors prefer Chicago -4.5; 84% are backing Detroit -9; and 56% think Cleveland -11.5 is the way to go.  As far as TOTALS are concerned, the only UNDER the “public” is backing is the Cleveland/ Washington game in which 83% are pounding the UNDER (190).  Remember, there is no better way to predict a possible line change than by monitoring MySportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends”.   By determining who the “public” is backing, you can get the most ideal line for your bet.  For example, if you are siding with the public you better place your bet before the line moves in the wrong direction.  On the other side of the coin, if you prefer the team that the “public” is betting against; you might be able to get and extra ½ or even more by placing your bet a bit later.  Under the “Betting Trends” section, Sportsbook.com also provides plenty of statistical data and trends in order for the bettor to make the most informed pick.  Below are some extremely important trends for the first round opponents of the Eastern Conference match-ups, more can be found at MySportsbook.com
