09/27/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Greg Maddux will shoot for another milestone in his Hall of Fame career when he leads the NL West-champion Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in the second test of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.
Maddux is currently tied with Roger Clemens with 354 career wins and a victory this evening over the Giants would put him into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time list. Maddux hasn't fared too well since re-joining the Dodgers, going 1-4 with a 5.71 ERA in six starts. He dropped his last outing on September 19 versus San Francisco in a 7-1 setback, as he gave up seven runs and nine hits in five frames. Maddux has lost two of his previous three starts and is just 1-5 in the past six decisions.
The right-hander, who is 7-13 with a 4.31 earned run average with both San Diego and LA this season, owns a 30-15 mark in 54 lifetime meetings with the Giants.
Los Angeles has dropped two in a row and suffered a 6-5 loss in 10 innings in Friday's series opener. Russell Martin, Jeff Kent and James Loney all homered while Martin and Kent both ended with two RBI in defeat. Starter Derek Lowe lasted three innings and did not allow a run. Jason Johnson was the seventh reliever used by the Dodgers and gave up the game-winning run in the 10th.
San Francisco ended a three-game slide last night thanks to Steve Holm hitting the game-tying sacrifice fly in the ninth and Dave Roberts collecting an RBI single in the 10th to seal the victory.
Pablo Sandoval had three hits and an RBI and Bengie Molina added a two-run blast for the Giants, who got six innings of two-run ball from starting pitcher Brad Hennessey. Tyler Walker earned the win with a perfect 10th.
Taking the ball for San Francisco on Saturday will be Matt Cain, who is 0-4 with a 4.75 ERA in seven starts since beating Atlanta on August 15 for his last win. Cain did not factor in the outcome of a 1-0 win over LA on Sunday despite hurling six shutout innings of five-hit ball. He is 8-13 with a 3.80 ERA this season.
Cain, a righty, hasn't fared too well in his career against the Dodgers, going 0-5 with a 4.24 earned run average in 10 starts.
The Dodgers and Giants have split 16 matchups so far this season, but San Francisco has won five of the past six encounters with LA.
