09/25/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Even though the Colorado Rockies are out of the playoff race they are still playing solid baseball as the season winds down.
Tonight, the defending National League champions will shoot for a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. After handing the Giants a 9-4 loss in the series opener on Tuesday, the Rockies broke the bats out again last night in a 15-6 pounding of San Francisco.
Clint Barmes finished 4-for-5 with a homer, four runs scored and four RBI to lead the way for Colorado, which has won five of seven and six of its last nine contests. Garrett Atkins hit a three-run homer, Matt Holliday knocked in three runs and Jeff Baker went deep in a winning cause.
Starting pitcher Livan Hernandez worked seven innings for the win, allowing 12 hits and five runs.
Jorge De La Rosa will take the ball for Clint Hurdle's ballclub tonight and he is 9-8 with a 5.20 earned run average this season. De La Rosa has won four of his last six decisions and defeated Arizona last Friday with six innings of one-run ball in a 3-2 victory.
De La Rosa will try to stay unbeaten in his career versus the Giants, as he sports a 2-0 mark with a 3.15 earned run average in six lifetime encounters (three starts) with them. The left-hander recently faced San Francisco on September 1 in a 4-0 triumph and earned the win with seven shutout innings.
The Giants have lost two straight, three of four and seven of their last nine games. In last night's loss by the bay, starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez was battered for seven hits and seven runs in only 3 1/3 frames.
Eugenio Velez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Giants, who gave up 18 hits. John Bowker homered while Nate Schierholtz also picked up three hits and knocked in a run.
Barry Zito will try to run his unbeaten streak to five games tonight, when he takes the ball for the Giants. Zito is 2-0 over the past four trips to the mound and 4-1 through his previous five decisions. He won his most recent outing on Friday at Los Angeles, allowing just a run and six hits in 7 2/3 innings of a 7-1 victory.
The left-hander and 2002 AL Cy Young Award winner last faced Colorado on September 3 at Coors Field and tossed eight innings of two-run ball for the win in a 9-2 decision. Zito is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in six lifetime matchups with the Rockies.
Colorado is 10-7 against the Giants this season, with a 5-3 mark at AT&T Park.
