Lowe to go for Dodgers in rubber match with Giants

Baseball Betting Lines

09/21/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Manny Ramirez isn't about to let a trade to the Dodgers end his string of postseason appearances. The hot-hitting outfielder will try to lead Los Angeles closer to a playoff berth in this afternoon's finale of a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants at Chavez Ravine.

Ramirez blasted two homers and had five runs batted in to help Los Angeles to a 10-7 win over the Giants on Saturday, maintaining the Dodgers' 3 1/2-game edge over Arizona -- which beat Colorado on Saturday -- for first place in the National League West. The win also lowered the team's magic number to clinch the division to five.

Ramirez, who helped Boston to a World Series title last year, now has 526 homers in his career and 36 total on the season. In 47 games with the Dodgers since coming over by way of a trade from the Red Sox, the right-handed slugger is hitting .404 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI.

Matt Kemp added a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who have won four of six and are trying to reach the postseason for the third time in five seasons.

The Dodgers hand today's starting assignment to another former Red Sox in Derek Lowe, who has a 0.68 earned run average over a current four-start winning streak.

Lowe extended his winning run on Tuesday versus the Pirates, as the righty allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings. He is now 14-11 with a 3.40 ERA in 32 starts for the season.

The 35-year-old is 4-5 with a 3.62 ERA in 12 career starts versus the Giants.

San Francisco, meanwhile, ends an 11-game road trip today and fell to 4-6 on the swing -- its last of the season -- with yesterday's loss. The Giants play their final six games of the year at home after today's tilt.

Travis Ishikawa and Pablo Sandoval each knocked in two runs for the Giants, who have dropped five of their last six games. Bengie Molina collected three hits and scored a run, but the club was undone by a pitching staff that issued 11 walks on Saturday.

Matt Cain toes the rubber for the Giants in this afternoon's finale.

Cain had a 7.71 ERA in his previous four starts (0-3) before facing Arizona on Tuesday. He held the club to a pair of solo homers over seven innings with seven strikeouts, but still lost his second straight start thanks to a 2-0 decision.

It was nothing new for the 23-year-old righty, who is 8-13 on the season despite a solid ERA of 3.91.

Cain, though, has struggled in his career versus the Dodgers, going 0-5 against them with a 4.73 ERA in nine starts.

Los Angeles is 8-6 against the Giants this season and sports a 5-3 mark at Dodger Stadium over that span. LA has won 27 of the last 41 matchups with the NL West-rival Giants.
