Olson leads O's against KC

Baseball Betting Lines

05/10/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Baltimore Orioles will try to continue their strong play when they take on the Kansas City Royals in the third tilt of a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

Garrett Olson will head to the hill for the O's for just the third time since being called up from Norfolk on April 29th. Since being with the major league club, the southpaw has a 1-0 ledger with a 2.08 ERA.

In his previous outing, the 24-year-old pitched an outstanding game against Oakland, limiting the A's to just one run, while scattering four hits and striking out seven batters in 6 1/3 innings of work. Despite the strong performance, the young hurler finished with a no decision and Baltimore was handed a 2-1 loss.

As for the Royals, they will send Brett Tomko to the mound. Tomko is mired in a terrible slump, as the righthander is winless in his last five starts.

However, in his last outing the 35-year-old tossed seven scoreless innings against Anaheim, scattering two hits, while striking out seven batters. Despite the outstanding effort, Tomko finished with a no decision and the Royals ended with a 4-0 loss to the Angels.

Unfortunately the crafty veteran has not enjoyed similar success throughout the season, and heads into this game with a mere 1-3 record with a 4.98 ERA.

Last night, Aubrey Huff went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, as the Orioles took the second installment of a four-game set, 7-4. Melvin Mora hit a two-run homer for the Orioles, who have won two in a row on the heels of a five-game skid. Kevin Millar was responsible for the other Baltimore RBI.

Steve Trachsel (2-4) collected the win after he went 5 1/3 innings and only gave up two runs on five hits. George Sherrill earned his 12th save of the year after he surrendered one hit and one walk in the ninth.

Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBI for the Royals, who have lost two in a row and four of five. John Buck went 2-for-4 with an RBI in defeat.

KC Starter Gil Meche (2-5) absorbed the loss after he was touched for five runs on six hits in five frames.

Baltimore has now won 11 straight encounters with the Royals.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup

September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.

Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to  name a  few.  Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR.  They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.

The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer.  Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
